The Piano Lesson

May 7 – June 8

By August Wilson
Directed by Ron OJ Parson

Master playwright August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play is the 1930s entry in his monumental 20th Century play cycle. A rich family history with origins in slavery is carved into the wood of the piano that could be Boy Willie’s ticket to self-sufficiency or Berniece’s legacy to her daughter. The Piano Lesson is the story of two siblings’ struggle to come to terms with their inheritance and the ghosts of their dead. Jeff Award-winning director Ron OJ Parson (The First Breeze of Summer, Fences) explores Wilson’s poetic text and richly complex characters.

Suited For Success Event

We are three weeks away from the Suited For Success Fashion Show & Private Shopping event, and I wanted to take a moment to tell you a bit more about the event, which takes place on Sunday, June 14th from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Stein Mart located on Roosevelt Blvd.  The Store closes at 6:00 pm to the public, and will re-open for our guests only.

As you'll see from the attached flyer, our "Got Suits" Men's Fashion show is shaping up to be a fabulous evening filled with Fashion, Shopping Discounts and plenty of Give-A-Ways. During this event, we will highlight the accomplishments of Leaders and Fathers in our community and celebrate our 5th year of helping disadvantaged men get "Suited For Success" and find meaningful work. Our celebrity male models will include:  City Councilman Stephen Joost, Councilman Reginald Brown, Eugene Darius (100 Black Men), Ronnie Cage (Cage Consulting), and "Victor Blackwell of First Coast News" will make a special appearance at the event.  Some of Jacksonville's most influential men will "Rip The Runway" in style in support of Suited For Success and honoring Father's Day.

As part of the evening's entertainment, Former BET Comedian "AJ" will be graciously lending his comedic stylings to help celebrate "Fathers". The evening will end with a special Grand Prize give-a-way.  You must be present to win.  Stein Mart will also be offering special discounts on Designer Men's Suits that can be purchased and donated to Suited For Success.  Come out and take advantage of a great "Pre-Holiday" shopping extravaganza and enjoy the show.

Over the past five years, Suited For Success has helped in excess of 1000 men become self-sufficient, obtain GED's, go to College, obtain career employment, become Entrepreneurs, and contributing members of our communities. And it is the on-going support of charitable individuals and organizations -- like you and yours -- that has made this possible.

I hope you will consider joining us on June 14th for what is sure to be an amazing evening. For more details and ticket information please visit our website @ www.suited4success.com. If you cannot attend the event, please consider making a donation using paypal on our website.  We hope to see you there.

2009 SHRM Annual Conference & Exposition

New Ideas. New Orleans.

June 28 – July, 1, 2009
New Orleans, Louisiana
Morial Convention Center

________________________________________________________________

SHRM is proud to announce our 61st Annual Conference and Exposition, June 28 - July, 1, 2009, in New Orleans, Louisiana!

Now, more than ever, keeping ahead of HR knowledge is vital to the success of your career and your organization. With new legislation, updated regulations, and an ongoing economic challenge confronting HR professionals in very real ways, the SHRM Annual Conference & Exposition will provide you with the tools, techniques and resources to ensure you come out ahead.

Exceptional Networking
The SHRM Annual Conference provides unparalleled networking in an environment that has been specially crafted to encourage knowledge sharing and information exchange in a professional and collaborative setting. From the popular SHRM Exposition – featuring thousands of solutions for your workplace – to the Global Networking Lounge - where you can meet and exchange ideas with HR professionals from around the world – this conference gives you a broad array of opportunities to learn, share, and discuss key ideas.

Recertification Credits
Your SPHR, PHR, or GPHR designation highlights your commitment and investment in your career and your profession. The Annual Conference provides you with a chance to earn up to 15 recertification credits, with even more credits available if you choose to attend any of the available pre-conference workshops or optional education sessions.

World Class Education
Being an HR leader means ensuring that you are keeping on top of all of the available educational resources at your disposal, and the SHRM Annual Conference provides a single location for some of the best education in the world. We have created a vast array of programs – certificate programs, business education courses and executive education programs – designed to maximize your potential.

 NEW ORLEANS—A GREAT DESTINATION!

New Orleans welcomed 7.1 million visitors last year and is excited to welcome SHRM in June 2009. The French Quarter is thriving and cleaner than ever, Uptown and the legendary Garden District enjoy a lively shopping and restaurant scene, and the downtown area including Canal Street has seen extensive refurbishment. And not only are those old venues still big draws — breakfast at Brennan’s, a stroll past street artists on Jackson Square, a visit to Preservation Hall to hear traditional jazz — an entirely new selection of cultural and culinary sites has emerged.

VOLUNTOURISM—A COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT IN NEW ORLEANS!

Through the dedication and hard work of residents and volunteers from all around the globe, downtown New Orleans is flourishing again. However, there are residential neighborhoods outside the downtown area that are still rebuilding more than three years after Hurricane Katrina. SHRM is partnering with Beacon of Hope, a local non-profit organization, to provide conference attendees with the opportunity to revitalize New Orleans homes on Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28. This is your chance to help rebuild a city in need and make a generous contribution to families in the city of New Orleans. It is also a great way to meet HR professionals from around the world.

For more information, or to register to be a part of this exciting opportunity to give back, visit the Voluntourism page.
